What does caring for the elderly have to do with Atheist Moms, you may ask?
It has been a trend for some time now that people are having children later in life, often in their 30s and 40s. This time happens to also coincide when their parents begin to experience health problems. As a result, new parents may be hit with two major responsibilities at the same time: caring for children and caring for aging parents.
Unfortunately, caring for the elderly is not a commonly discussed subject in the west and society tends to be uneducated about it. People may often feel overwhelmed when a parent suddenly has a major health problem and the family is completely unprepared for the new caring responsibilities that emerge.
We want to ease younger parents into giving thought to providing care for their own parents when the need comes. This will provide a cushion for the whole family, including the youngest and oldest ones we hold so dear.
Here are resources we have started to compile regarding caring for aging parents. If there is something we should add, please let us know.
