More details about why I launched Atheist Moms

Atheist Moms

In April 2020 I published a blog titled, “Why I launched Atheist Moms.” This blog is still relevant, but I wanted to give more details on why I launched Atheist Moms.

Before the birth of my daughter in October 2019, I started looking up atheist parent groups. I did find one official website, called Atheist Parents, but it was outdated with much of its content appearing to have been posted in 2012. The content specifically discussed religion. I did not see content about general parenting topics, such as childcare tips, dealing with difficult mental circumstances like postpartum depression, etc.

I then looked up atheist parent pages on Facebook. While there were a number of them, many of them appeared to be abandoned and had not been updated for years. The content was overall memes making fun of religion. I understand posting memes can be a form of relief, but I wondered is that it to atheist parenting? Posting memes?

Frankly I was looking for a group that was similar to Christian parent groups I had observed in the past, just minus the god part. A group where members shared funny stories about their children and offered tips about childcare or dealing with personal challenges.

Since the group I had in mind did not exists, I decided to launch it myself, hence where the concept of Atheist Moms came from.

I look forward to branching out beyond the topic of religion when it comes to being an atheist parent. I hope to discuss healthy food for children, traveling, mental health, family challenges, etc. So many topics that atheist parents can relate to and share insight on.
