My name is Lauren Ell. I am a new mom to a beautiful baby girl named Kajsa who was born in late 2019 in Sweden. I come from a secular Christian upbringing in Southern California, and have identified as atheist for over 15 years.
Before Kajsa was born, I was researching baby products and care on Youtube, and I realized many of the moms who gave advice were outspoken Christians. I am thankful for any mom who takes time out of her busy schedule to give advice, but I couldn’t help but wonder if there were atheist moms out there who were also giving advice. I did a Google search and didn’t find many.
Additionally I randomly came across a virtual conference for moms that took place in 2019. The advertisement made the event seem like a general event for moms, but as I started watching speakers I realized it was a Christian mom conference! Don’t get me wrong, I am a very open minded person and I actually like the Christian mom community from observations I have made thus far, but again I couldn’t help but wonder where are the atheist moms?
These observations led me to thinking of the concept of Atheist Moms, an organization that would provide a positive space for atheist moms to share feedback, advice and frustrations. It would be a place where atheist moms can talk about children activities, family outings and self care.
Atheist Moms is currently a side project for me since I am so busy with my daughter and other endeavors. However, I will gradually work on it and look forward to seeing it develop! If you are interested in becoming involved, please contact me at info [at]atheistmoms.com.
